Research Introduction

genden

On September 2014, the Yamaji laboratory was founded as part of the Waseda University’s Cooperative Major in Nuclear Energy. Its main research interest lies in the development of supercritical water reactor (one of the Generation-IV reactors), along with the current design research on accident tolerant fuel for needs in commercialization. The laboratory also puts effort in analyzing the past nuclear accident that happened in the Fukushima-Daiichi nuclear power station (2011). Furthermore, we work on severe accident simulations using the latest simulation method called the “particle method”. The main feature of this laboratory is that it covers a broad range of research topics within the field of plant design; it is the only laboratory in Japan that covers from core design all the way up to the larger scale severe accident analysis using simulation technologies.

Comprehensive study is required in the field of nuclear science and engineering.
We approach the complex system of nuclear power plant using various perspectives by providing the following research topics:

Topic 1: Development of nuclear transmutation technology and core design for Generation-IV nuclear reactor
Topic 2: Accident tolerant fuel design and behavior analysis
Topic 3: Accident and safety research on nuclear power plants
Topic 4: Core meltdown analysis using the latest particle method
